Spring sees a bounty of asparagus, artichokes, cucumbers and radishes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-md my-6 text-black-400\">Year-round, you&#8217;ll also find a head-spinning array of cheeses, breads, fresh and cured meats such as sausages, poultry \u2013 including spit-roasted chickens, fresh fish laid out on beds of crushed ice, olive oils, spices, preserves, p\u00e2t\u00e9s, pastries, sweets and sizzling ready-to-eat dishes like cr\u00eapes. Nearby, chefs&#8217; favourite March\u00e9 d\u2019Aligre is, unusually for Paris, a fixture six days a week. Weekends are especially busy, so arrive early.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-md my-6 text-black-400\">Other favourites on the Seine&#8217;s Right Bank are the March\u00e9 Daumesnil (Tuesday and Friday; bd de Reuilly), off the beaten track in the 12e, with stalls stretching over 1.3km; March\u00e9 Pr\u00e9sident Wilson in the ritzy 16e, selling premium produce like heirloom vegetables; March\u00e9 de Belleville, in the artsy, multi-ethnic Belleville neighbourhood; and March\u00e9 Barb\u00e8s (Wednesday and Saturday; bd de la Chapelle) in the 18e&#8217;s vibrant &#8216;Little Africa&#8217; neighbourhood, where you&#8217;ll find cassava, okra, yams and spices such as <em>mnavu<\/em> (African nightshade), amaranth seeds, baobab pods, powdered <em>mbongo<\/em> (alligator pepper) and kola nuts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-md my-6 text-black-400\">On the Left Bank, top picks include March\u00e9 Monge, set around a pretty fountain, and March\u00e9 Maubert, both located in the Latin Quarter; and March\u00e9 Raspail, ideal for picking up picnic fare to take to the beautiful chestnut-shaded park Jardin du Luxembourg.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"article-h2 mb-6 mt-16 text-black\"><strong>Explore organic markets<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"text-md my-6 text-black-400\">On Sundays, March\u00e9 Raspail transforms into a <em>march\u00e9 bio<\/em> selling all-organic (<em>biologique<\/em>) fruit and vegetables. Other organic markets include the 17e&#8217;s March\u00e9 Biologique des Batignolles, and the 14e&#8217;s March\u00e9 Biologique Brancusi (place Constantin Brancusi), which both take place on Saturdays. These vibrant streets are lined with <em>boulangeries<\/em> (bakeries), <em>p\u00e2tisseries<\/em> (pastry shops), <em>fromageries<\/em> (cheese shops), <em>cavistes<\/em> (wine shops), <em>\u00e9piceries fines<\/em> (specialist grocers) and other food and drink boutiques.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-md my-6 text-black-400\">Atmospheric <em>rues commer\u00e7antes<\/em> include rue Montorgueil, which crosses from the 1er to 2e arrondissements. It&#8217;s the one-time oyster market of the erstwhile wholesale markets Les Halles. On the \u00cele de la Cit\u00e9, the larger of Paris&#8217; two inner-city islands, the city&#8217;s oldest market of any genre, the 1808-established March\u00e9 aux Fleurs Reine Elizabeth II, is a fragrant oasis of colour and greenery. Close by, over 60 booksellers sell secondhand titles at the March\u00e9 Georges Brassens, in former abattoir pavilions next to leafy Parc Georges Brassens.
